SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
“Science can purify religion from error and superstition. Religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes.” ~Pope John Paul II~
The Science Department strives to present a baseline for students in Biology (Life Science 7th grade) and Chemistry/Physics (Physical Science 8th grade). Emphasis is placed on cooperative group activities in both the classroom and science labs. Observation and critical thinking skills are implemented along with the integration of the Scientific Method assessed in formal lab reports. The goal of the Science Department is to enhance book learning with hands-on activities that will engage our students with the desire to learn more and continuing the study of these subjects in high school.
Grade 7 Life Science Course 600
This course covers plant and animal cells, diffusion of particles in and out of cells, the relationship between traits, genes, and chromosomes. Bacteria, viruses, fungi, plants and animals are also introduced. Students do several research projects and activities during the school year.
