Dear Parents and Students,
I would like to take this opportunity to extend a special thank you all
members of our Nashua Catholic Community - parents, students and staff -
who displayed a tremendous outpouring of love, compassion and sympathy
to the family of Alex Lyskawa in their time of sorrow. I know the hearts
of the Lyskawa family were deeply touched. Please read the following
letter commemorating Alex's life. The letter was written by Ms. Megan
O'Brien, one of Alex's teachers:
"There are so many good memories that come to mind when we think about
our friend and student, Alex Lyskawa. One of my first memories of Alex
goes back to one of the first school dances. He came in wearing a white
baseball cap that everyone (boys and girls) wanted to try on and dance
around with. Alex came up to me smiling from ear to ear, "Miss O'Brien,
everyone wants to wear my hat"! He certainly wasn't annoyed that a
prized possession of his was getting passed around to the various
dance-goers. Instead, he was quite amused and just laughed as his 'cool'
hat was passed from person to person. This incident showed me Alex's
passion for making people happy and his terrific sense of humor. Alex
embodied so much will, determination and spirit to succeed. He was
successful in the classroom, on the sports fields and in his
relationships with his friends. In fact, he was quiet about his
achievements and lived each day with a silent, but a strong sense of
pride.
Over the past week, numerous students have shared heartfelt stories and
comments about their time with Alex. In Theology and History class, we
shared stories about the mischievous side of Alex that make us laugh
until our stomachs hurt! But also we shared how helpful Alex was with
all of us and how he quickly could make a gloomy day into a happy one!
He cheered us up with his smile, he made us laugh with his jokes, he
helped us find great websites when doing research and he always wanted
to talk about the newest movies that were coming out in the theaters!
Alex always would stay behind after Theology class was over to help me
push in all of the chairs and make sure the desks were in order. If
there were papers or trash on the floor he would just pick it up. I
recollect him helping other teachers all over the building as well;
moving the piano from the cafeteria to the music room after chorus
practice and always helping to set up the chairs in the gym for
assemblies or Mass. The spirit of Alex's willingness to help with a
smile on his face is quite a commendable achievement that will live on
with us forever at Nashua Catholic.
Alex touched so many hearts and certainly made an impact on our
community at Nashua Catholic. One of his 'mottos' that I heard him say
often to me was, "this is the real Alex". (Of course with a huge smile
on his face). He was so happy with his life and everything that went on
around him. His love, happiness and ambition will unquestionably live on
through the lives of the people he touched this year at Nashua Catholic.
God Bless Alex Lyskawa. "
Student Spotlight:
Our D.I. team did a great job at the global competition in Knoxville.
They were among the 1, 031 teams from the United States and 15 foreign
countries competing. It was quite an experience for them. Our team
placed 10th overall in their instant challenge and 20th in the long-term
challenge. The team received special acknowledgments from the appraisers
for their creativity, teamwork, and presentation skills. Congratualtions
to the NC DI Team and their outstanding efforts!
End of Year Financial Obligations:
We respectfully request that parents attend to all financial obligations
prior to the end of the year activities; these obligations include
tuition payments, field trip payments, 3rd Qtr. Extended Day payment
etc. 4th Qtr Extended Day bills will be sent home with the final report
cards.
FROM THE HISTORY DEPT:
The 7th grade immigration project, the highlight of the year, took place
on Friday, June 6th. All 7th graders were to come in costume,
representing the character they had been given, in native costume from
the "old" country. The students enjoyed processing through Ellis Island
(the cafeteria) to see what it was like at the turn of the century.
The 8th grade has studied "current" American history this quarter,
discusssing JFK's assassination, Watergate, and the tumultuous events of
the '60's through the '80's. Most classes will have a final to cap off
this experience.
The History Dept wishes all of the 8th graders a pleasant summer and a
wonderful fall in their high school pursuits.
Library News:
Finally we have obtained a one-year contract for web- based software,
called Library World, that we have been working toward this year. With
this product, we can load all of our library onto their website, and
access the contents from any computer, so that all of our staff and
students can see what is available in our library. We will also be able
to set parameters for checking books in and out, and access MARC
records. If, at a later date, NCRJHS is able to obtain a dedicated
server for "Live" library software, we can download our records and move
them to the new system, without additional charge from Library World.
With the addition of 5 computers in our Library and the Web-based
Software, we are well on our way to making the NCRJHS Library the
valuable resource we want it to be, as well as fulfilling the challenge
set forth in our accreditation directive.
Spring Arts Festival:
Our annual Spring Arts Festival was held in the school Gym on June 2
from 7-8PM. An enthusiastic crowd was on hand to witness fine
performances by Mrs. Joseph's Band and Chorus students as will as an
impressive display of art works by Mrs. Rucci's talented artists.
Congratulations to all who participated in this wonderful evening of
celebrating our students' accomplishments.
SUMMER POROGRAMS:
It's getting warm outside and summer is coming soon! It is time to start
planning for our fifth annual SUMMER STARS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM! Our
summer Study Skills and Junior High Success courses are open to all
students who will be attending Nashua Catholic in 2008-2009. Don't miss
this chance for a great start to the next school year! Our courses
quickly sell out and have waiting lists! Registration began April 1 and
will continue until all courses are filled!
Please check our website (www.ncrjhs.org) for this year's SUMMER STARS
program information and registration forms!
EXTENDED DAY NEWS:
With the warm weather coming soon, the students who stay for NC's
Extended Day program (3:30pm- 5:30pm) will be enjoying some time in the
sun and fresh air. When weather and space permit, we will make use of
the small grassy area to the side of the Cafeteria, and the larger
"field" behind the school adjacent to the staff parking lot to play
croquet, wiffle ball, touch football, tag and other games. If it is a
sunny day and you don't see us in the Cafeteria, please drive around
back to pick up your child. The Extended Day staff calls out the make,
model and color of cars as soon as we see them, but we need your child's
help to keep an eye out for you, too. Please discuss with your child
when you will be dismissing him or her daily.
On a final note, if your child has your permission to leave school
grounds after school, they may do so, but they are not permitted to
return to the Café or Extended Day programs. We cannot be responsible
for students who leave school grounds, or for students who are not where
they are supposed to be after school. Once students sign in to Café or
Extended Day, they are expected to remain in the programs until they are
picked up by a parent or authorized person, or leave to walk home or to
an activity or location you have permitted. These policies are for
student safety, and violations of them will be reported to the
administration. Thank you for your cooperation!
8th Grade Class Trip:
On May 29, our 8th graders were treated to a thoroughly enjoyable outing
at Camp Lincoln. Accompanied by several of our 8th grade faculty
members, the students experienced a full day of activities that included
a new kayaking game called splash the teacher! This was followed by rock
climbing and noodle fighting twenty feet above the crowd. Only a few of
our students were on target at the archery range. All participated in
crossing peanutbutter valley by rope and getting into the cargo net. A
good time was had by all.
Athletic Dept News:
Most of the Nashua Catholic Spring teams have concluded their season's.
The Golf team will have their championships on June 9th. Congratulations
to our Softball team for a fine season making it to the Semi-final game
against Windham. They lost a well played game 5-3. The Track team
qualified many athletes for the Tri County Championships. For the girls;
Genevieve Gosselin place second in the 100 Hurdles, Heather Lavoie place
third in high jump, and the 4x100 relay team of Molly Wolber, Erin Lehto,
Maddie Lewis and Anaya Clay placed fourth. For the boys; Zach Waye
placed fourth in 100M and fifth in the 200M, Marlen Mahendraratnam
placed third in the long jump. We want to also take this opportunity to
'Thank' all our spring coaches for a job well done, especially our track
people for stepping up to run this years team.
In keeping with our new tradition, the Spring Awards Ceremony took place
on Tuesday, June 3rd at 1pm. Congratulations to all our Spring Athletes
for their outstanding accomplishments
May we please have all the uniforms returned back to Mr. B. Thank you
for your cooperation in this matter.
Notice to 7th grade parents: Not to rush the summer along, but there is
an important date for you to note!
Fall sport tryouts for boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball and boys
and girls cross country running will have its first day on Tuesday,
August 26. Times will vary, but most teams will begin practice right
after school.

Development News:
Fashion Show update. We want to thank all those involved with this
year's fashion show. It was again another huge success, both from the
financial end - we raised over $20,000 - and most of all, from a student
participation point of view. We had just short of 100 students modeling
clothing from 10 local clothing stores. A show of this magnitude doesn't
happen by itself. Chrisitine Lachiusa, Sue Mack, Debbie Day, Mary
Kirkwook, Julie Parolin, Renee Rucci, Paul Gratiano, our back
stage/dressing room attendees, and Mr.B's stage and set up dads did a
miraculous job of preparing and showcasing a special evening. A special
'thank you' also to all who contributed items for the silent auction;
and let's not forget all of you who attended. It was a wonderful
evening! Thank you for caring so much about our school. Let's do it
again next year!
Funds from this event will help with the creation of a new computer lab
for this coming fall. We are going to turn Mrs. McFadden's room 306 into
a new state of the art lab.
Pictures! They're ready for your perusal! Go to the school web site
www.ncrjhs.org and under announcements you may view thumbnails. Pictures
may be purchased for $5 each. Click the link to send Mr B your request.
Next event: The Fourth Annual Golf Tournament will take place on
Thursday, August 7th at Souhegan Golf Course in Amherst, NH. Check the
school web site for more information or call the school for an
application. Get a foursome together. Send out a challenge to your
alumni friends, make it a neighborhood or family day (brothers and
sisters). Students may participate, however we need an adult to play
(basically to drive the cart). We are currently looking for hole
sponsors along with cart and hot dog stand sponsors. It's always a great
time.
One last item!
'Thank' you to everyone, for another wonderful school year. From
championship soccer and basketball tournaments to multi team wrestling
matches to bowling with moms and sons and dancing with dad's and
daughter to the aforementioned fashion show, what a whirl-wind year! We
couldn't have done it without the help of all of you. Have a great and
restful summer. We need to do it all over again starting with the golf
tourney.
Admissions Corner:
The Spring Open House was a great success! Thanks to all the teachers,
staff and students for giving their time and talent and to the parents
that encouraged our visitors to come. The evening was a terriffic team
effort for Nashua Catholic!
7th and 8th Grade Openings:
YES! Nashua Catholic does have openings in both grades at this time. Our
primary admissions season is from October through mid March only to
accommodate financial aid deadlines. We encourage families to call,
visit and tour Nashua Catholic on an on going basis.

books last year. Our Nashua Catholic web site now has next year's
textbook list by course numbers and with ISBN's for 7th and 8th Grades.
It has more ISBN's in math for some courses from which to choose used
books. You may choose any source of textbooks, both new and used that
you wish buy from - noting the specific ISBN's, that they are student
additions and thier condition. ALWAYS purchase books according to their
ISBN. Changes in this year's book list include new science books and
some additions in math. Please remember to order your books early.
Students should have textbooks by the first day of school.
2nd Annual NC Tuition Raffle:
