Dear Parents and Students,
Now that we are into the swing of things for the school
year, we can look to October as being a very busy month.
By the time you receive this newsletter, our students
will have already been treated to an interesting
assembly on "Robotics" by Jack Burris a well known
eductional presenter who specializes in technology
education to a wide array of student groups. In
addition, this month will also include our "High School"
Fair night, the first sessions of the "Catholic Schools
Prep course (see more below) , the Mother/Son Bowling
Night and our Annual Halloween Dance among others.
Please check the information and Calendar below for
specific dates. Another important event for us this
month will be a dedication ceremony we have planned in
memory of Alex Lyskawa on Wednesday, October 22 at 1:45
PM - parents and friends are welcome to attend. So as
the month of October descends upon us we hope and pray
for beautiful weather and a succession of events that
will help your child benefit from the Nashua Catholic
experience.

News RE: High School
Entrance Exam Prep Course:
As in the past, NC will be offering a Prep Course for
High School Entrance Exams. This course is a review of
selected concepts in math and English; practice tests
will be administered in both of these subject areas.
This will allow students to experience a typical High
School Entrance Exam and become more comfortable with
the format. The students will also learn practical tips
on test taking. Although participation in the
preparatory class does not guarantee admission to any
school, it may be beneficial for some students to review
material and take practice tests.
Essentially, classes will be held after school from
3-5PM on Oct. 14, 16, 27 & 29. More detailed info will
be sent home via Homeroom handouts and will also be
available on our website.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all
those parents who were able to attend our Parent's
Night; we hope you found the evening both informative
and entertaining. Also, thank you to those parents who
donated to our Teacher Wish List and agreed to donate
their time in some volunteer capacity.
From the Theology
Dept.:
JESUS NEEDS YOU! Now that we have your attention, we
have a problem we hope someone can help us resolve.
Nashua Catholic has 2 altars, one permanently in the
chapel and the other that is brought out for school
masses. Two altars, but only one decent altar cloth that
must constantly be switched back and forth. Having a
second cloth would make life a bit less hectic. If there
is anyone who could make an altar cloth for us, or who
knows someone with the necessary sewing talent, the
entire school community would be extremely grateful. The
demensions of the altar are as follows: Heght-39",
Length-64", Width-28". Thank you in advance for making
the liturgical life of the school more prayerful.
Also, a mighty shout out to the Prayer and Service Club.
Through their efforts and generosity, the chapel has
beautiful new icons of the four evangelists which
surround the crucifix. And we not only have a new hand
carved ciborium from Haiti, but we were able to have two
older ciboria re-plated. Now they truly are fit to hold
the Body of Christ. Again, THANK YOU!!
Progress Reports:
Parent, please sign and return your student's progress
report by Tuesday, October 7, 2008. If you wish to keep
the report, kindly send to the office a note stating
that you wish to keep that copy in your files.
Athletic News:
The fall sports teams are all underway. The boys' and
girls' soccer teams are having a tough time getting
going but continue to put forth great effort. The girls'
volleyball team is beginning to gel. They're coming off
a great win against perennial power Fairgrounds Middle
School. The cross country team is also doing very well.
The girls' team took first at the Milford Cross Country
Invitational. A group of 7th grade girls participated in
the Annual New Balance Ocean State Cross Country
Invitational and came home with first place honors.
Fall Sports Awards will take place during the school day
on Tuesday, October 28, beginning at 1:30.
Tryouts for Cheerleading will take place on Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday, October 28, 30 & 31.
Tryouts for Basketball will take place the week of
November 3rd. Times for boys and girls will be announced
once we know how many students we have trying out. We
have a game schedule and plan on having two boys' teams
and two girls' teams, provided we have the players.
Wrestling practice begins on Wednesday, November 12.
Wrestling is a 'no cut' sport at Nashua Catholic. We
accept all comers who have a good attitude and are
willing to put forth a good effort regardless of
athleticism or skill. Schedules for tryouts and
practices will be posted to you towards the end of
October.
One favor to all the car pool folks who pick up after
school, please use Bartlett Ave for a staging area. We,
the sport teams, need Webster Street for car pool cars
and bus parking. Thank you for your assistance and
understanding.
Development News:
First from the Nashua Country Fair committee, Thank you
very much for your consideration and assistance with the
home room baskets. They were awesome; they were filled
to the brim with great items. Although deed sales were
down this year we certainly want to thank all of you who
took the time to sell your deeds. Home room 201 took
first place, followed by HR 203 and HR 102.
Mother/Son Glow Bowling is planned for Saturday, October
18th from 7:30-10p at Merrimack Ten Pin on the Daniel
Webster Highway. Tickets are still available; the cost
is $40 per couple, and includes pizza, drinks, ice cream
dessert, bowling and shoe rental. Moms may send in money
with their son, to the attention of Mother/Son Night.
The Fashion Show Committee still has openings; if anyone
wishes to help out, please contact Mr B via phone at
school or email rbsnlt@ncrjhs.org. We need dads too. Mrs
Rucci has all kinds of ideas for our 'Paris' theme this
year; but we need help with runway building, lights,
tables and chairs. Any time you can contribute to the
show would be greatly appreciated. The Show date is
Friday, March 20. For planning purposes, Mrs Parolin and
the Silent Auction folks are always looking for new
ideas and gifts- ie. air fare some place, pro sports
tickets, weekend get-a- ways and sports memorabilia.
Please keep us in mind.

Announces
Late Breaking News from the
English Department!
Oct 02, 2008
Dear Parents and Students,
Please be advised of the
following:
The 8th grade English classes
are continuing to focus their
efforts on researching and
constructing formal research
papers, and the 7th grade and
8th grade literature students
are continuing to explore
nonfiction literature.
In Mrs. Barker's Seventh Grade
Honors Literature classes, guest
speakers Mrs. Glenda McFadden
(Theology chairperson) and Mrs.
Sharyn Sevigny (History
chairperson) presented
interdisciplinary lessons based
on their expertise in Holocaust
Studies. Mrs. McFadden's
presentation focused on the
eight traits of a rescuer, and
Mrs. Sevigny's presentation was
on the Jewish and non-Jewish
partisan resistance movements.
This interdisciplinary exercise
was in conjunction with the
students' summer reading
assignment The Upstairs Room by
Johanna Reiss.
On October 8, 2008, Mrs.
Barker's and Mrs. Philion's
Eighth Grade Literature classes
will be visiting the Mark Twain
House and Museum in Hartford,
Connecticut, as part of their
study of this great American
author. Mrs. Pinsonneault's
Honors Eighth Grade Literature
students also plan to visit this
historical site, as well as the
home of Harriet Beecher Stowe,
one of Samuel Clemens's
neighbors, in the spring.
Presently they are engaged in a
study of African American
cultural history which included
an exploration of the history of
jazz and its artists.
