Dear Parents and Students,
Well, here we are in the final weeks of school. How time flies! The
professional staff at NC wants to emphasize to students (and
parents) the importance of finishing the year on a strong academic
note. We all know how easy it is to swing into summer mode as the
weather continues to get better and better. But, remember, there is
still much work to be done - i.e.,those final quizzes, tests,
projects and papers. Don't abandon ship until you arrive in port! We
want all our students to finish the year successfully. So stay the
course right up to the last days of school. We still have one last
flurry of progress reports due as well as a couple of field trips,
the Arts Festival, our Scholastic Awards Day, the Graduation Dance,
the 8th Grade Graduation, and our Book Buy Back Days to name a few.
So there is still much to be done and much to look forward to before
the "...summer winds come blowin in!"
Last Day of School:
The Diocese of Manchester has approved a state waiver that was
extended to us by the DOE. Therefore the last day of school for NC
students will be Thursday, June 19! Dismissal will be at 11:30.
Student Spotlight:
Alexander Thurston achieved a perfect score on the 2008 National
Latin Exam. Only 1,062 students out of over 135,000 who participated
in the entire United States, Australia, Mozambique, Canada, England,
Italy, New Zealand. Poland, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, and Zimbabwe
attained this distinction. Congratulations to Alexander!!
From the world languages department:
The first week of April was world languages week at Nashua Catholic.
Each day was dedicated to a different enrichment activity in the
French and Spanish classes. As an art activity, the French classes
explored pointillism made famous by Georges Seurat, while the
Spanish classes created "flat pińatas". As a music activity, the
French classes listened to French rap by MC Solaar, while the
Spanish classes listened to music by the Dominican artist Chichi
Peralta. We also had native speakers visit our classes. Merci to
Mme. Magoun, a native French speaker. Gracias to Sra. Hennessey,
from Puerto Rico, Sr. Barillas, from Guatemala, Sr. y Sra. Medinas,
from Argentina, and Sra. Zajac, from Ecuador. The final activity
involved technology. The students researched and created PowerPoint
presentations on different French and Spanish-speaking countries.
The entire school was involved in a "scavenger hunt", matching
teachers to their favorite words in different languages.
Additionally, French and Spanish desserts were available at lunch
for a goodwill offering; all proceeds were donated to Operation Rice
Bowl.
On April 25, the French classes traveled to LaBoniche Restaurant in
Lowell, Massachusetts for an authentic French meal. It was an
enjoyable meal, and the chocolate mousse was delicious!
SCIENCE NEWS:
The Science Department has chosen to update both the 7th and 8th
grade Science Textbook for the school year 2008-2009. We will be
using Holt, Rinehart, and Winston's Physical Science, a one book
text. Please be advised that the current Science text books can not
be sold to next year's Nashua Catholic students but can be sold back
to the book company when you are purchasing new books for next year.
Graduation News:
Graduation practice is Tuesday, June 10 at the Immaculate Conception
Church, Nashua, NH. Please have your student arrive promptly at the
church for10 AM. Practice will end at 11:30 AM. Please pick your
child up on time as the teachers must return to Nashua Catholic to
continue teaching. Students should leave all yearbooks and all ipods/MP3
players at home.
Graduation is 6PM on June 12, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Church.
Students should be at the church hall by 5:30 PM. There are no
tickets nor a limit to invitees since there is ample seating. Please
have your student dress appropriately for the Liturgy. They must
arrive at the Church Hall wearing their gown with the
flower/boutonniere pinned to the left side. Gowns and the silk
flower or boutonniere will be distributed in homeroom on Monday,
June 2, 2008. Gowns cannot be ironed, so it is best to take the gown
out of the package and hang it on a hanger.
A light reception will follow graduation in the church hall
immediately after the ceremony is over (approximately 7:30 PM). This
is a final opportunity to say goodbye to teachers, administrators,
staff, and friends.
One last note about graduation: Please refrain from calling out
during and after the graduation ceremony. I know this is a day of
celebration for the graduates and their families. However, keep in
mind that we are in a church. Thanks for your attention to this
plethora of information! My intention is to have a very memorable
and joyous day for the graduates and their families!
Mrs. McFadden
Prayer and Service Club:
The Prayer and Service Club spent a Friday afternoon making blankets
for small children who are dying of hunger or aids in Haiti. Many
students participated and the blankets were truly a labor of love.
Thanks to Mrs. Lehto and Mrs. Lewis for all their help and guidance.
Also, thank you to our staff/teacher participants: Mrs. Blake, Mrs.
Biron, Mrs. Pinsonneault, and Mrs. Kirkwood. The club plans to have
one more day of sewing for the Romanian children living in
orphanages sometime in May.
Mrs. Parolin and Mrs. McFadden

appreciation to all of our families who have been ever so helpful in
spreading the good news about Nashua Catholic Junior High School.
The drawing was held May 5, 2008 and the winner of the $200 tuition
prize was Nancy Lavoie. The Lavoie's have been at Nashua Catholic
with multiply children. Next year, Kyle Lavoie will be a 7th grader
at NC from St. Christopher School. We thank the Lavoies and all of
our outstanding families who have been so helpful this year. It is
you who make Nashua Catholic GREAT!

Textbooks
Yes, there will be some changes to the textbook list for 2008-2009.
The biggest change is our need for new science textbooks.

7th Grade Book Buyback Wednesday, June 18 11:00 - 1:30

a two week turn around on orders.

spectacular job of coordinating a magnificant breakfast. Our Nashua
Catholic Wildcat pins have us bursting with pride! Thank you for
making us feel so special!
Summer Programs:
It's getting warm outside and summer is coming soon! It is time to
start planning for our fifth annual SUMMER STARS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM!
Our summer Study Skills and Junior High Success courses are open to
all students who will be attending Nashua Catholic in 2008-2009.
Don't miss this chance for a great start to the next school year!
Our courses quickly sell out and have waiting lists! Registration
began April 1 and will continue until all courses are filled!
Please check our website (www.ncrjhs.org) for this year's SUMMER
STARS program information and registration forms!
EXTENDED DAY NEWS:
With the warm weather coming soon, the students who stay for NC's
Extended Day program (3:30pm- 5:30pm) will be enjoying some time in
the sun and fresh air. When weather and space permit, we will make
use of the small grassy area to the side of the Cafeteria, and the
larger "field" behind the school adjacent to the staff parking lot
to play croquet, wiffle ball, touch football, tag and other games.
If it is a sunny day and you don't see us in the Cafeteria, please
drive around back to pick up your child. The Extended Day staff
calls out the make, model and color of cars as soon as we see them,
but we need your child's help to keep an eye out for you, too.
Please discuss with your child when you will be dismissing him or
her daily.
On a final note, if your child has your permission to leave school
grounds after school, they may do so, but they are not permitted to
return to the Café or Extended Day programs. We cannot be
responsible for students who leave school grounds, or for students
who are not where they are supposed to be after school. Once
students sign in to Café or Extended Day, they are expected to
remain in the programs until they are picked up by a parent or
authorized person, or leave to walk home or to an activity or
location you have permitted. These policies are for student safety,
and violations of them will be reported to the administration. Thank
you for your cooperation!
News from the Art and Music Departments:
The NCRJHS Spring Arts Festival will be held on Monday, June 2nd at
7PM in the gymnatorium. Each seventh grade student will have art
work on display for family and friends to view. The Band will
perform a variety of musical selections including theme music from
Harry Potter and Star Wars movies while the Chorus vows to tickle
your funny bone with hillarious songs guaranteed to make you laugh.
It's an evening of fun and entertainment you won't want to miss.
Come one! Come all! Refreshments will be served!
ATTENTION BOSTON RED SOX FANS AND MILK DRINKERS:
Please start saving all your Hood Lightblock milk caps to help
Nashua Catholic earn up to $ 10,000 and a chance to win a visit from
a Red Sox player. The school with the most caps [ per student] wins
the Red Sock visit. Caps are worth 5 cents each and the program ends
October 31, 2008. So please continue to collect your caps through
the summer vacation.

directory/photo release form for 2008- 2009 as soon as possible.

News from the Hollis Town Band:
The Hollis Town Band will be presenting a Young People's Concert on
Sunday, June 8th, at 2pm, at the Hollis-Brookline High School
Auditorium, at Cavalier Court (just off Rt. 122) in Hollis, NH.
Admission will be $5/person up to a maximum price of $20 for a
family of 4 or more. This one-hour concert will be a golden
opportunity to come learn about the instruments in a band, hear them
demonstrated, and learn more about music in general. The Hollis Town
Band is a 75 member amateur band made up of musicians from all over
the area. The youngest member is in the fourth grade, and the oldest
member is somewhere in the 70s. Hollis Town Band members come from
all walks of life, from doctors and sales representatives to
secretaries and engineers, from stay-at-home parents to retired
people including almost 35 students from area schools, including one
from Nashua Catholic. Over the years, the Hollis Town Band has had
as members many students from Nashua Catholic. The one thing all the
band members have in common is a love of band music. For many years
the Hollis Town Band has provided entertainment at the annual Nashua
Catholic Regional Schools Country Fair, and this is a great chance
to hear them in an indoor concert setting. You can learn more about
the band by visiting our web-site at www.hollistownband.org and
remember that we are always looking for new members. The only
requirement we have for membership is that you can play a band
instrument and can read and play 16th notes. We rehearse Wednesday
evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 at the Hollis Town Hall on Monument
Square in Hollis. For more information, contact the Hollis Town Band
Director, David Bailey, at 603-883-2448 or by email at: director@hollistownband.org.
