GOALS Program

We are pleased to offer the G.O.A.L.S (Guided Organization,Assignments, and Learning Skills) Program this year. This program is for students who would like to strengthen organizational, improve homework completion, and develop study skills. The G.O.A.L.S. teacher, the student and his or her parents/guardians work together to support the student’s progress. Once a need for the program is identified, students will meet with the G.O.A.L.S teacher as often as needed, as determined by the student’s parents and teachers. The program is available by appointment from 3:30-5:30 p.m.  On days when there are teacher workshops or meetings, the G.O.A.L.S program will not meet.

Assess the student’s current method of organization/time management and make suggestions for improvement.

 

Be open to suggestions to improve organization/time management. Discuss student’s strengths, weaknesses & struggles with teacher, including any pertinent background or home life information.
Assist the student in implementing organization/time management changes at school.

 

Turn all homework assignments in on time. Assist the student in implementing organization/time management changes at home.
Check the student’s agenda book each session to see in all assignments are written down clearly (and initialed by the subject teachers, if necessary).
Write down all homework assignments (even if the homework is “none”) each day in agenda (and get agenda initialed by subject teachers). Write down due dates for projects and tests. Check the student’s agenda book every night to see if all assignments are written down clearly (and initialed by the subject teachers).
Check to see if the student has all of the needed materials to do his or her homework.

 

Complete homework assignments, work on project components & study for tests/quizzes. Remind the student of the importance of turning in homework assignments/projects on time.
Monitor the student’s homework completion and clarify directions for work completed during G.O.A.L.S. sessions. (If the student needs extra help sessions, they need to make arrangements to meet with the specific subject teachers.)

 

Bring necessary materials to G.O.A.L.S. session. Monitor the student’s homework completion and clarify directions for work completed at home.
Communicate with the parents/guardians about progress made during sessions.

 

Be honest and vocal about needing help when struggling with content material. Communicate with the G.O.A.L.S. teacher about concerns and changes in student behavior.

Dates of Availability: Students can enroll in G.O.A.L.S. at any time during the school year. At the mid-point and the end of each quarter, students will be evaluated to determine if continual enrollment is beneficial.

Hours of Availability: 3:30 – 5:30, Monday – Thursday (except days of early release or teacher meetings)

Fees:

  • $12 (session of 60 minutes or less)
  • $24 (session over 60 minutes)
  • Additional fees are imposed for parents who collect their student after 5:30.
  • Students who fail to show for a G.O.A.L.S. session will be charged for a 60 minute session, unless the parent gives the program 24-hours notice or the child is absent from school that day.
