450 COMPUTER LITERACY
Grade 8
(1/2 Year Course)
This is a basic course in computer literacy. Topics will include the history, vocabulary, how
the computer affects our lives, and legal issues associated with its use. The internet will be used for research and
communication. Social and ethical issues
will be discussed.
Microsoft
Professional Office software is used for the application part of this
course. Microsoft Excel is used
by the students to setup their own spreadsheet.
Financial, world and sports statistics are some of the topics put on
spreadsheets and then graphed. Microsoft
Access is the database program the students will use to do student
surveys, address book and history databases.
Word processing is taught through Microsoft Word. The principles of word processing can then be
applied to a variety of other word processors.
Students
will be introduced to the concepts of developing a web page in HTML.

703 TECHNOLOGY in the
TWENTY FIRST CENTURY:
This
course is an introduction to the computer and multimedia. Instructions on keyboarding and touch-typing
will be emphasized during the semester.
The computer, different software and peripherals will be demonstrated
throughout this course.
Letter
writing, general rules of formatting a paper, and dictation will be some of the
ways in which word processing and keyboarding will come to life.
Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows are used for
the application part of the course.
Spreadsheets, data bases, Power Point presentations will be
introduced. The students will become familiar
with web page design in HTML, imaging Microsoft
Schedule+. The internet will be
used for research and communication.
Social and ethical issues will be discussed.
