During our recent 8th grade graduation ceremony, a very deserving graduate was recognized for all of his efforts, his work ethic, and giving nature in his time here attending Nashua Catholic. Mr. Bob Scheifele, a member of the school’s scholarship committee, presented Colin Tran with the prestigious Helen J. Horan Scholarship. The scholarship was made possible as a result of a bequest to the school by Father Denis Horan, the school’s chaplain from 1997-2006, in loving memory of his sister Helen. The recipient of the award receives a four-year scholarship to continue Catholic education at a Catholic high school of the student’s choosing. The value of the scholarship changes from year to year depending on the cost of enrollment at the chosen Catholic high school.
The scholarship is open to all graduating students, but applicants must demonstrate solid academic performance, be involved in the school community, obtain letters of recommendation and complete a 500 word essay addressing how “A Catholic education is a gift for a lifetime.” Colin, the son of Kathleen and Quang, will be attending Trinity High School in the fall. In addition to receiving the Helen J. Horan Scholarship, Tran was also awarded with the Perseverance Award for his role and efforts as a member of the Nashua Catholic boys soccer team during the Fall, and the Trinity High School Book Award at our recent Academic Awards Ceremony.
Congratulations to Colin, and the entire Tran family on this tremendous honor!
