It was a lovely day for the first ever Nashua City Middle School Softball Championship which was held at Nashua High School North on Saturday, May 18. In Game 1 of the tournament our girls came out victorious as they won 15-3 over Fairgrounds Middle School. “This was by far the best game that we have played all season long” said Head Coach Ryan Farris. “Our girls came out with great intensity and focus, and we were able to play solid defense, and we kept putting the ball in play” said Farris. NC starting pitcher Sage Underwood threw a complete game for the Wildcats, and was able to hold the Falcon offense in check all game long.
After a lengthy break between games, our Lady Wildcats took the field against the Elm Street Eagles in the City Championship Game. “Unfortunately things did not go as well in this matchup, but e are so proud of our girls because they never stopped fighting. It would have been easy to give up, but they kept playing, and kept giving their all, and that is all we could ask for”, said Assistant Coach Deb Gauvin when asked after the game. “We had our chances to push some runners across the plate, but we just couldn’t capitalize on those opportunities. This Elm Street team is very talented, and they were able to step up to the plate and make the plays when they needed to” said Farris.
Head Coach Ryan Farris also commented, “looking back on the season, it is obvious that these girls have gotten so much better than they were when they showed up at the first day of tryouts. As a team we have really come together, and worked hard all year long to be better. We knew we had a fairly inexperienced group, but the improvements have been tremendous, and I have had such a great time working with these girls!”
