“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” – Matthew 6:34

Dear Parents and Students,

It is just SO quiet around here without you!  Hopefully, you are enjoying the sun and the surf.

The summer is a time of planning and anticipation for faculty and students alike.  We are having monthly meetings to plan the 17th Annual Country Fair and Great American Cow Maneuver.  You can visit us at www.nashuacountryfair.org.  The Fair will be held Saturday, September 24 with a rain date of Sunday, September 25 from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.  We will be behind Holman Stadium once again.  For the uninitiated, the Cow Maneuver is an annual fundraising event to benefit Infant Jesus, St. Christopher, and NC.  Basically, we sell “deeds” to plots on a field.  (We hope you will sell 10 deeds!)  On Fair Day, we release cows onto the field.  If a cow does what cows do on YOUR plot, you could win up to $5,000.00.  Each school generally earns $10,000 - $15,000.  For NC, this money goes directly into our operating budget.  Infant Jesus School is the lead school this year with Mr. Tom Lizotte and Mr. Mike Bernier “steering” the committee.  Volunteers will be ever so welcome!  Please, mark the date on your calendar and look for the flyer requesting help in the First Day Package distributed on the first days of school.  Deeds will be included as well!

Flynn & O’Hara Uniformers will be visiting us on Tuesday, August 2 from 12:30 – 2:30 P.M. for returns or measuring.  The NCRJHS SCHOOL UNIFORM consists of blue polo shirts and khaki slacks/shorts for boys and girls.  Socks and sneakers/shoes are mandatory.  Backless sneakers/shoes are not allowed.  The total height of soles plus heels may not exceed 2 inches.

Pro-Sales is the company that supplies our physical education uniforms.  Their number is 888-2416 or 305-9027.  Email address is JRustAft1@hotmail.com.  Remember that the physical education uniform includes t-shirts AND sweat pants that have our logo on them.  Students may not wear the plain, store-bought sweat pants any longer.  (Shorts are available through Flynn & O’Hara.)

Book bags are allowed during the school day – just be sure they are not oversized.  There are enough locker breaks provided that students do not have to carry more than two classes’ worth of books at any time.  Students may carry side-held or backpack book bags.

Save your school shopping until after the first days of school.  Teachers will inform students about specific supplies at that time.

Instruct your students to write their names in ink on the inside cover of their text books.  This is a good idea for uniforms as well!  Do not bring the books to school on the first day – there will be plenty to deal with without them!  Teachers will supply lists of necessary items on the first day of school.  Do instruct your child to bring a book bag, pen/pencil, and some paper for note-taking.

We will open our doors for the First Days of School on Wednesday, August 31 for 7th Grade only.  The first day of school for 8th Grade is Thursday, September 1 (7th Grade stays home that day).  The Cafeteria Doors (enter through parking lot off of Columbia Street) will be unlocked at 7:00 A.M.  The late bell rings at 8:00 A.M.  ALL students will enter the building through the Cafeteria Doors.  Morning drop-off for cars is through our parking lot – enter from Columbia Avenue.

Dismissal is at 2:30 P.M.  At dismissal, students will exit the building as follows.  Bus riders will be called to the cafeteria and will sit at designated bus tables until their buses are called.  Although morning bus drop-off is on Bartlett Avenue, the afternoon pick-up is on Columbia Avenue.  BUS TICKETS are included in this newsletter.  Please call Mrs. Coker if you have any questions regarding them.

Walkers and riders will be released through the gym foyer doors on Bartlett Avenue.  Please queue up on Bartlett Avenue on the school side of the street if you are picking up your students after school in a vehicle.  Students will still have the option to remain at school in the Study Hall or Café until 3:15 P.M.  Please respect this ending time.  We need parent volunteers to assist the teacher on duty from 2:30 P.M. – 3:15 P.M.  Please call the office or email me if you can volunteer at this critical time.

This year, we will have staff to supervise children after 3:15 P.M. and insist that ALL students be in the Extended Day Program after 3:15 P.M.  The Extended Day Program is a fee service.  Parents will be charged for any part of an hour that your child is here after 3:15 P.M. until 5:15 P.M.  Signup for the Extended Day Program will be explained in the First Day Package distributed on the first days of school.  Please call if you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter.  Unless your child is in a supervised study hall provided by teachers/coaches, or is in a meeting with a teacher, or is playing a sport, he or she must be picked up or ride a bus home or walk home.

Several families have requested Car Pool Lists.  Please be sure to complete the question regarding this on the attached sheet.  Phone numbers and addresses are not distributed without your express consent.

Course assignments and STUDENT SCHEDULES are included in this letter.  A new copy of the schedule will be distributed on the first day of school.

Our caterer, Celebrations, will provide an a la carte menu from August 31 – September 8.  We will have pizza on Friday, September 9.  Hot Lunch menus and Lunch Volunteer forms will be in the First Day Package.  We do need some help with lunches right from the beginning.  If you can volunteer any time during our first couple of weeks up through September 16, please call our parent coordinator, Mrs. Romero, at her home phone, 595-7994.

Yearbook SUPPLEMENTS will be available to all returning students sometime in the Fall.  The memories are wonderful and we will treasure them throughout the coming years.

We have consolidated the school fees into the overall tuition again this year.  This includes classroom fees, Athletic Team and Intramural Fees, Yearbook, Graduation Fees, After School Study Hall and Café, and classroom consumables.  It is included in the overall tuition and fees as designated on the tuition agreements signed in the spring.  The tuition will not cover the Milk Program ($12/year) or Mrs. Couchman’s After School Art Instruction ($150/course).  Band and Chorus will be meeting during the school day on a regular basis.  Meeting times for the extracurricular art program:

  • Art               Wednesday or Thursday 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.

The Milk and Extracurricular Art Program Fees will be due Friday, September 9, 2005.  Enrollment sheets will be included in First Day Packages.  Please do not send money now.

We continue to strengthen our Music and Art program here at NC.  This year, we will welcome new music and art teachers.  They will meet with each of the English sections once per week for Music/Art Instruction.  This will work in a similar way as Physical Education and Literature.  Mrs. Susan Reilly will resume the duties of Choral Director.  Meeting times within the school day and teachers’ assignments will be announced for Band and Chorus in the First Day Package.

This fall, Wildcat Theatre will present the musical, Into the Woods Junior.  Information night will be Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 6:00 P.M. The directors will explain the audition process and there will be sign-ups for audition slots.   Audition night is Thursday, Sept. 8. Auditioners must attend both the Info Night and Audition Night. There are great parts for both singers and non-singers!  You can learn more about this fabulous show at "Audition Central" at the Broadway Junior website, www.broadwayjr.com.  Show flyers with more information regarding show dates and rehearsal times will be out soon!

We will also offer LEGO League this year.  Regarding the First LEGO League, we would like adult volunteers to help with the LEGO Teams.  Please contact me directly through email.  The teams will meet 2-3 afternoons/week, September through December.

All HEALTH AND SHOT RECORDS must be up to date.  Verification of a second MMR vaccination is required by the State of New Hampshire for all students entering grade 7.  You will receive a letter if we do not have verification of the second shot.  The Exclusion Date is Tuesday, September 13, 2005.  If students have not shown verification they will not be allowed to attend school after that date.  Please note that there are free clinics available every Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and Friday from 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. at the Nashua Health and Community Services Building, 18 Mulberry Street, Nashua.

Attending school, on time and every day, is an important responsibility.  It is imperative that parents notify the school before 8:00 A.M. when their student is going to be ABSENT or TARDY.

And so we entertain thoughts of the beginning of school!  Please consider joining our MONTHLY LITURGIES and MORNING CHAPELMonthly Mass is usually planned for 9:00 A.M. one Friday per month.  The first Mass is scheduled for Friday, September 16.  With all the obligations that must be met, our days can become quite hectic, and even our prayer life can deteriorate.  We invite you to join us for morning chapel at 7:20 A.M.  This is a wonderful way to greet the day.

In closing, thank you for choosing Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School.  We pride ourselves on being a child oriented/family school.  We will do everything possible to provide your child with a quality education in the Catholic tradition, which is to reinforce the Christian values being taught at home.  Our school program is only as strong as the support and encouragement it receives from you.  We have many opportunities for volunteer parents that we will present to you in the First Day Packages.

Have an enjoyable summer and may God watch over you and your families during the coming months.  God bless you all.  See you soon J !

Peace,
