What an historic and memorable spring it has been thus far. Our students are following and, in some theology classes, simulating the conclave of cardinals as they elect our next pope. It is an amazing moment in our Church.

Spring Open HouseRecognizing that families are making decisions in Grade 5 to determine junior high and beyond, we are hosting an open house with representatives from Infant Jesus School and St. Christopher Parish School. This Open House Night exclusively for 5th grade students and parents is scheduled for Thursday, May 12, 2005 from 6:30 - 8:00P.M. The evening will highlight the curriculum and opportunities for students from 6th through 8th grades in the Catholic school system. The final results for the national MathFax Contest are in! Nashua Catholic has won First Place in our division for both Algebra I and Pre-Algebra! In addition, three Nashua Catholic students have won awards in our division!
Derek Huang came in First Place for the Algebra I test in the Catholic Schools Division 5, and Quinn Tule came in third!
Shayan Banerjee also came in First Place for the Pre-Algebra Test in Division 4!

Kevin Schranz participated in the Geography Bee, held at Keene State College on Friday, April 1. Kevin made it to the tiebreaker round. Well done, Kevin!
Kelsey Sanborn will be attending the National Student Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. from July 19-24, on partial scholarship, representing NCRJHS. Kelsey’s teacher, Mrs. Plouffe, was awarded the National Student Leadership Award for nominating this most capable young woman.
The Eighth Grade History classes have completed their unit on World War II and are into the 1950s, where they are learning about the Red Hunt and Senator Joseph McCarthy, and the start of the Civil Rights movement. Notable in this time frame is Brown vs.Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, as well as the nonviolent protests of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, and the March on Washington.
Our school winners for the Reader’s Digest Vocabulary Contest represented us well at the state competition. Jared Erb placed fifth and Catherine Walter placed second!
Several NC students have entered artwork in the NH Wildlife Art Contest and Exhibit at Squam Lake Science Center. Their work will be on display June 29 – August 26. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they are chosen for the yearly calendar! Thank you to Mrs. Sheppard for submitting the students’ work! Good luck!

From the Athletic OfficeWinter Awards Night was well attended. Mr. Knepp continues to amaze us with his power point productions. Thank you to everyone who submitted photos. It was great to reminisce if only for a short time.
Spring Sports The golf team hit the driving range this past week. Coach Philion has great expectations for this year’s team. They will begin their season when we get back from Spring Break. The baseball and softball teams finally got outside this week. It’s been a long cold winter! The baseball team has booked Historic Holman Stadium for a couple of games during vacation. We’ll play on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday that week, game time is 9am. Come check out the team!
Well, we did it. We’ve started a boys and girls lacrosse teams. The boys have a solid group of 20 or so players. However the girls could use a few more players. Come on, give it a try! We practice on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays after school, 3:00-4:30 P.M. behind Holman Stadium.
Mark your calendars Spring Awards Night will be held on June 7, 7:00 P.M. in the Gym. Baseball and Softball play-offs will be held the week of May 30. The golf team championship will be held on June 6 and 7. The track team will have their championship day on June 1 at Alvirne High School. We will also compete in the Nashua City Track Meet with the three Nashua Public Middle Schools on May 17 at Nashua North High School.
Before we go, there are some basketball and volleyball uniforms still outstanding. Parents, please check and make sure your son or daughter has returned the uniform. Thank you for your help in this matter.
From the Development OfficeThe Father/Daughter Dance was a huge success. We had over sixty couples enjoy an evening of great music and dancing, not to mention delicious snacks and beverages. Thank you to everyone who made this a memorable evening, especially the families who brought us the goodies and the year book moms who took pictures. And let’s not forget our Dads!
The Fashion Show is shaping up to be another great production. This year’s theme is ‘A Trip back to the Wild, Wild West’. We will once again hold a Silent Auction in conjunction with our fashion show. We are still soliciting items at this time. Perhaps you would consider offering either goods or services to this wonderful event. Some great ideas are gift certificates to restaurants, (there’s a new one opening up in Merrimack soon) the ‘new/popular’ music devices that are out, back yard gadgets for Barb-B-Q-ing, sporting goods are always a big hit not to mention tickets to our favorite teams. Please mark your calendars to attend this wonderful afternoon. Tickets are now on sale. Call the office to reserve yours now. Adults are $12 in advance ($15 at the door) and Junior High students and younger are $5. Thank you for your generous support to a great fundraiser.
We are also putting together our program at this time. If you or someone you know has a business that would like to advertise in our book, please see the last page of this newsletter for more information or feel free to call us here at school. Our committee is currently looking for someone to video tape our show. If you or someone you know would like to help us out please call Mr. B. We are also looking into projecting the show ‘Live’ on the big screen. If you have expertise in this area we can use your help. Please! Give us a call, let’s talk.
Some new fun this summer. We will be hosting our First Annual Golf Outing. The date is August 4, 2005 at Souhegan Woods Golf Course. Keep the date open, it’s sure to be a fun day. Registration forms will be out the next couple of weeks, watch your mail!
Summer Sports Schools have been confirmed. Basketball will be offered to Boys, grades 5-8, the week of June 27 – July 1. Girls, grades 5-8, July 11-15 and a Coed week grades 3 and 4, July 18-22. Girls’ softball, grades 6-8 will be July 25 – 29. Boys’ baseball, grades 4-6 will also be the week of July 25-29. Coed soccer for grades 6-9 will be July 18 – 22. This will once again be in conjunction will Elite UK Soccer. All brochures are available in the office. We will be mailing brochures out to everyone who attended last year this week.
Graduates and Relocating StudentsAll eighth graders and any seventh graders who are moving to another school must return the purple Release of Records forms to Mrs. Coker by April 21. We must have these completed forms before we can send your records to your next school.
Any student who is planning on attending Nashua High School in September must go to NHS to register if you have not already done so. The course selection is only part of the process.
Nashua High School – South is hosting an Open House and Orientation Night on Tuesday, May 17 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. This Open House is for parents and students. New York TripsThe itinerary for the trips was included in the last newsletter. We were able to reschedule the eighth grade trip that was canceled due to the funeral of Pope John Paul II. That trip will take place on June 3. Thank YouA huge thank you to the parents who prepared our Teachers’ Breakfast last month. We all appreciated every morsel! Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to Janet Reynolds, Kathy Owens, Pauline Carbonneau, Jean Elliott, Debbie Walter, Nancy Lehto, Emily Ogozaly, Kim Naquin, Bonnie Skogsholm, and finally Mary Ann Melizzi who planned and organized the entire event. It was just great! Book SaleAs mentioned in the calendar section, NC will be having a book sale on Tuesday, June 21. We will be selling our inventory of textbooks for use next year. Students will be responsible for their own textbooks. A list of required texts will be available before that time. Our placement testing will also be complete so students will know their levels for mathematics, literature, and English classes. More information will follow regarding the purchase of new textbooks (if you prefer them) and workbooks, Vocabulary Books, and Agenda Books.
As the sun continues to make its play for greater presence in the sky, we can all look forward to a successful conclusion to our school year. Thank you for sending your children to us. Happy Spring!
